Pumpkin Princess Costume

From LoveToKnow Costumes

A pumpkin princess costume is always a huge hit at Halloween; they're classics. Your little girl's a princess all year round, of course, but Halloween gives her the opportunity to dress up like an adorable little pumpkin. She's sure to get the most candy on the block wearing one of the costumes available this year. You may have a hard time finding this style of costume for yourself but your little girl will have quite the collection to choose from if she decides to go this route.

Your Selection of a Pumpkin Princess Costume

When you think, "pumpkin princess costume," you may think of a big, round, orange suit with a cute little orange beret for a hat (with stem, of course). However, if you really dive into the selection of costumes, you'll find an eclectic bunch of pumpkin princess portrayals, from rompers to fairy princesses. Here are a few:

Costume City, for example, offers a costume that creates an elegant, fairy princess air. The color scheme is truly "pumpkin," with shades of orange and lime. The dress is made of orange satin, with a sheer robe made of a light and floaty lime material. The costume also includes a pumpkin headband, bracelet, and sequin detailing. The outfit is available in size 4-6.

Halloween Costume Sale hass another fairy-like pumpkin princess costume. This one is available in child sizes 4-6, 8-10, and 12-14.

This Pumpkin Spice costume doesn't advertise itself as being for a "princess", but she'll look like nothing else in this pumpkin wig, A-line dress, and go-go-girl boot covers. This one's for the little diva in your life. It's available in sizes 8/10 and 12/14.

We mentioned earlier that you may have a hard time finding yourself a costume in this category. However, in the same vein as the Pumpkin Spice costume for girls listed above, there's also an Adult Pumpkin Spice Costume. Slap on a crown or a tiara with that wig and you're good to go-go.

Other Pumpkin Costumes

If your child is too young for most of the costumes out there, you can still dress him or her up in pumpkin style. How adorable (and warm!) is this romper from Personalization Mall? It features a picture of a pumpkin wearing a crown, and the lettering says, "Pumpkin Patch Princess." The romper is fleece-lined, so your little one will be cozy even if you take her out for a bout of trick-or-treating.

The Pumpkin Cutie Pie Vest from Costumes4Less comes with matching booties and a hat that will give your child one of the most precious costumes in the neighborhood.

Two "coverall" options for the babies include the Newborn Pumpkin Fleece Saque and the Newborn Silly Pumpkin Coverall, either of which would keep your little one warm on a cool night out.

Make Your Own

You may want to try to make a costume either to save money or show off your crafting skills. No problem! It can be done easily and on a budget.

The quickest (and probably cheapest) option is to buy an orange sweatshirt, paint a Jack-o-lantern's face on it, fill it with newspaper to make it round, secure it around the bottom, and parade around in that with black leggings and a tiara. Other princess accessories like jewelry, shoes, and wings are optional. This could work for any age, child to adult. If you do decide to add wings, here is a great tutorial on how to create your own.

If you want something a little more special, more princess-like, or just something a touch more adorable than a sweatshirt, there are other options.

Take this Autumn Fairy Costume, for example. It's made up of silk leaves and flowers and is more unique than anything you can buy at the store. Plus you get the pleasure of putting it all together yourself. You can easily take this costume and make it into a pumpkin princess design instead. A few ideas:

  1. This design mentions a headband. You could easily replace that with a tiara or an orange beret (adding a stem will be easy—-rolled-up felt and a safety pin are all it takes).
  2. Keep the same color scheme pictured, but choose to add green and/or brown ribbon to look like vines to the slip. Add green leaves. You could choose an orange slip and add the vines and leaves to it in a smaller quantity than this pattern suggests.
  3. The poofier the slip, the more rounded the appearance. Keep in mind the shape you're going for when you choose the base for the costume.

There are so many different pumpkin princess looks out there. Have fun choosing--and maybe even making--your costume!
