Quick Tip

If you want to make a sturdy mask that will last all Halloween night and beyond, print the Halloween mask template on thick cardstock paper. You also have the option of laminating your mask prior to adding on embellishments using clear contact paper.

Make Your Mask

Once you print out your mask, carefully cut it out and then decorate it as you see fit! Then, use a hole punch to cut out the small circles on either side of the mask for your ribbon. Finally, tie a strip of ribbon through each of the holes and your mask will be ready to wear!

Alternatively, if you are looking for a masquerade-style Halloween mask that you simply hold up to your face, we recommend snagging one of those leftover chopsticks you have lying in your junk drawer and gluing it to the backside of the mask. If you want to spruce it up, consider coloring it to match your mask before you glue it down.

More Tips for Making High-Quality Halloween Masks

Here are a few added tips to make sure that your accessory is absolutely spooktacular!

  • Some masks may require resizing before printing. We recommend printing your Halloween mask template in black and white and on regular paper to confirm the fit before printing on your cardstock or using colored ink.
  • Use the highest printer quality setting to get vibrant mask colors and clean lines for black and white masks.
  • Prior to decorating, cut out your mask and hold it up to your face. You want to ensure that the eye holes are big enough for you to see through prior to adding color or additional materials.
  • Use your hole punch to pop out a small section of the eyes. This can allow you to cut out this part of the mask without having to bend your paper.

How to Customize Your Halloween Mask Templates

You will want to add a splash of color to your Halloween mask, but there is an array of other ways to jazz them up! Here are a few ideas to consider:

  • Bedazzle your mask with colored rhinestones.
  • Use a thin paintbrush to apply glue to certain sections of your mask and then sprinkle glitter over the top.
  • Glitter pens are another easy way to embellish your mask that requires fewer supplies.
  • Glue fake flowers around the top of your Day of the Dead mask.
  • Cut out sections of felt to overlay on any mask to give it a 3D effect.
  • Adhere thick black pipe cleaners above Frankenstein's eyes to create realistic eyebrows.
  • Thread black yarn through the mask using a needle to create a 3D stitch on Frankenstein's head.
  • Pipe cleaners can also be glued onto your cat mask to make whiskers.
  • Add sequins and feathers to a Mardi Gras mask to bring some extra flare.

Other Uses for Your Halloween Mask Printables

From kooks and spooks to ghosts and ghouls, there are plenty of celebrations that may require a Halloween mask as a costume accessory. However, there is also an array of other ways to use them:

  • Use them as printable Halloween coloring pages for toddlers and preschool-aged kids.
  • Use them as an easy alternative to pumpkin carving. Decorate your mask and then glue it directly to your pumpkin.
  • Make them into unique Halloween party invitations. Color in the eyes instead of cutting them out and print party info on the back.
  • Mini-masks make great Halloween party favor tags or table place cards.
  • Fun masks can make for great non-food treats for the houses participating in the Teal Pumpkin Project.
