From LoveToKnow Costumes
You don’t have to have voice lessons to turn into a secret rock star if you just wear the right Hannah Montana costumes. For Halloween or any dress-up event, whether you buy an official costume or make one yourself, you’ll be ready to rock the night away.
The Look of Hannah Montana Costumes
The Disney officially licensed deluxe Hannah Montana costume is instantly recognizable. It features a white tank top with gold accents, asymmetrical black mini-skirt with sheer layers, black leggings with lace trim, a detachable belt with the Hannah Montana logo, a scarf and fuzzy boot covers. The distinctive shiny blond wig with straight bangs is sold separately.
There is also a standard licensed costume featuring just the top, skirt and belt. Both costumes range from child to teen sizes.
Shopping for Hannah Montana Costumes
Since so many tween girls want to unleash their secret singing sensation, the licensed costume and wig are available at the vast majority of costume shops, both online and brick-and-mortar. The costumes are extremely popular, and shops have a hard time keeping them in stock, so if you want a ready-made costume, you must plan ahead and buy early.
Popular online sources for the costumes include:
Make Your Own Hannah Montana Costume
Since the real key is the wig, and especially the bangs, once you have that covered, creating the rest of your Hannah Montana look is easy and you can go the homemade, rather than licensed, route.
For the top: You want sparkle. Sequins are best and glitter is great, but do bring out that bedazzling bling. You can use glitter and a glue gun on a pink T-shirt or cami, or stitch on sequins. This is one time you don’t have to worry about overdoing it. Also look for a cropped, fitted jacket to wear over the top in either denim, leather, velvet or corduroy. If you want that even more sparkle, add a few rhinestones to the jacket.
For the bottom, either rhinestone-studded black jeans or black tights and a mini-skirt will do just fine. But they do have to be worn with cowboy boots, and a little more sparkle here won’t hurt. Black boots would do as well, however.
Accessories: Scarves and glittery necklaces with matching earrings. And if you can get a wide gold belt with a big buckle, so much the better. Red-toned sunglasses with more sequins go great at a daytime party. And in case there’s any doubt who you’re meant to be, a toy hand-held microphone or headset mic should answer those questions easily.
Finishing Touches
There’s no point in getting a blond wig with heavy straight bangs and going to all this trouble with the costume if you’re not going to go all Hannah with the makeup. You still need to shimmer, of course. Start with a smoky eye using pinks and purples. Add black eyeliner. It should be heavier on the top than the bottom. A bit more shimmer under and in the corner of the eyes won’t hurt. Then comes the thick mascara. It should be black, of course, and if you can find some with a bit of sparkle, all the better.
With the eyes getting so much attention, you want the rest of your face to be simpler. A touch of blush is all that’s needed on the cheeks and then a bit of shimmery pink lip gloss will finish the look perfectly.
There! You’ve popped out your pop princess and are ready to rock and party on!
