Halloween Costumes For Teenagers
From LoveToKnow Costumes
Finding great Halloween costumes for teenagers can be tricky. Many teens draw the line at any costume idea they see as uncool.
Halloween Costumes for Teenagers
Let's face it. Dressing up for Halloween is just plain fun, regardless of how old you are. However, Halloween costumes for teenagers can be a bit tricky to find. Teen girls typically don't want to go the "ugly" route, and teen boys may want to take their costume ideas to the extreme.
Money often comes into play as well since teens may be limited on funds for purchasing costumes. While there are plenty of costumes to be had in department stores and costume specialty shops, they are often very pricey. Most teens won't want to wear the same costume two years in a row, so purchasing a costume certainly can't be viewed as an investment either. We've got some great ideas to help you find and/or make the perfect costume for this Halloween season. Keep reading!
Where to Find a Costume
If you just aren't the creative type, there are plenty of other avenues you can take when searching for Halloween costume ideas for teens.
- Costume swap: If you and your friends are struggling to find a great costume this year, why not form a costume swap? Invite several of your friends over, and ask them to bring any and all costume paraphernalia along. This could include old clothes, masks, last year's costumes, makeup, costume jewelry, hats, etc. Let each participant take turns putting together a great costume from the displayed items. Turn the costume swap into a lively party with finger foods, and you'll have lots of fun while creating the perfect costume!
- Yard sales: Believe it or not, you can find some great stuff at yard and garage sales. While the items may not be costumes per se, you can piece together a great outfit just by turning someone else's junk into your own treasure!
- Online auctions and classifieds: The mega online auction site is, of course, eBay, but you can also check out online classifieds like Craigslist for Halloween costumes. In many cases, you can find unique and rare costumes for very little money.
- Clearance sales: While this idea may not help you out this year, plan ahead for next year by purchasing costumes at clearance prices in the first week after Halloween. Target is notorious for selling their Halloween costumes, supplies, and even candy for as much as fifty, seventy-five, and even ninety percent off. Check out the shopping boards on MyCoupons for information on who has the best after season bargains.
- Attics, closets, and garages: Don't overlook your own home as you search for Halloween costumes. Dig out old clothing, hats, makeup, etc., and create a one of a kind costume for free!
Costumes Ideas
Now that you know where to find costume supplies, it's time to check out some ideas!
- Toga: Perhaps one of the easiest ideas out there is the humble Toga! All you need is a white sheet, some rope (or similar material), and a few green leaved branches. Drape your sheet across one shoulder so that both halves of the sheet fall straight down. Now, gather the sheet together to cover yourself, using safety pins where needed to secure. Tie the rope around your waist, create a crown of branches for your head, put on some leather sandals, and you are now a Greek god or goddess!
- Cat: This idea is so easy to do and is uncomplicated for teen girls to make. Purchase a black body suit, black leotard, and black head band. Create a small skirt out of leopard or tiger print material. Sew the sides of the skirt together, adding elastic to the waist. Use the rest of the material to make ears that can be glued to the headband and a tail to be sewn to the skirt. Paint your face like a cat!
- Pirate: This will work for a girl or a boy. Tie a bandana around your head, and make an eye patch tied with string for your eye. Wear a billowy white shirt with big sleeves, and cut off some pants so the edges are jagged. Tie a sash made of any material around the waist, and add a plastic sword. You're done!
