Buying a Wonder Woman Costume

From LoveToKnow Costumes

If you are interested in buying a Wonder Woman costume, you are not alone. For strong little girls or tough and sexy adult women, the appeal of the Wonder Woman costume has been powerful for 60 years and only continues to grow. The Amazing Amazon is one of the few great female role models in comic books, so it’s no wonder so many want to emulate her. She may wear a skimpy outfit when saving the world and dispensing justice, but there’s nothing skimpy about her intelligence, morality and physical power.

The Look of a Wonder Woman Costume

From the comic books to the classic TV series, Wonder Woman’s costume remains pretty constant. The Amazon who comes to America to help it win World War II wears a skintight suit based on the American flag. Her strapless top is red with “WW” written on the front in gold. Her briefs are blue with white stars. She wears a gold tiara with a red star, matching bracelets, a gold belt with gold lasso attached, and red boots with white stripes.

Sometimes she also wears a red cape, and instead of briefs, she wears a short blue skirt with white stars. You can make some variations for individuality, but this is the look that will tell everyone you are Wonder Woman.

About Buying a Wonder Woman Costume

Since everyone likes to feel a little more wonderful, it’s hardly surprising that Wonder Woman costumes are available for infants, toddlers, kids, teens, adults, plus-size women and even dogs.

You’ll find a good selection at Zoogster Costumes, which boasts officially licensed Wonder Woman costumes. They stock ten costumes, including:

  • Infant and newborn. One of the few Wonder Woman costumes that can be worn any old time until it’s outgrown, this is a long-sleeved romper with an underleg snap closure. It includes a headpiece.
  • Toddler. This costume is a shiny dress featuring a top in a tank-top cut with the Wonder Woman logo on the chest, a cape, the gold belt, boot tops, arm gauntlets and a gold headband with the red star.
  • Deluxe Child. A deluxe dress in a tank-top cut with a cape, boot tops, wrist cuffs, headband and gold belt.
  • Deluxe Adult and Teen. A sexy but tough mini-dress with a strapless dark red top, the Wonder Woman logo, star accents, a red cape, arm gauntlets, red and white boot tops and the gold tiara.
  • Plus Size Adult. Who says the bigger girls can’t still be superheroes? Since Wonder Woman is an Amazon, she should have some substance to her. This costume only differs from the regular Adult costume in that the attached skirt is a bit longer, reaching almost to the top of the boot tops.
  • Sexy Adult. You’ll have to buy cute underwear for this mini-dress, because it will be seen. The bodice is gold and red and a cape is included, but no boots or accessories come with the costume. This costume is also available in Plus Size.
  • Dog. If you don’t mind humiliating your pet, this costume is pretty amusing. It’s a jumpsuit with attached arms, a cape and a headpiece.

Notice none of the costumes come with the gold lasso. Fortunately, you can go to the notions department in any fabric shop and get twisted gold trim to wind up and pin to the belt.

Making Wonder Woman Costumes

Because the costume is so fitted, you have to be a skilled seamstress to make it well. You can base the costume on a bathing suit, if you want the briefs. Red boots can be trimmed with white duct tape and sparkling paint can be used to create gold accessories. If you really want something perfect and fitted and are not good at sewing, look for someone who does Cosplay sewing and ask them if they will make the costume for you.

In the end, it’s all about the attitude, because you have to remember that with Wonder Woman, there is nothing she can’t do!
