Bunny Costumes

From LoveToKnow Costumes

Bunny costumes are a must for Easter egg hunts, but they're fun for other costume parties and even Halloween as well. Here's the lowdown on what you need to know when picking out the perfect bunny costume.

Traditional Bunny Costumes

The classic bunny costume is a large white suit that covers the whole body and has a removable head. The body is usually white, brown, gray or pink with a white belly. Feet and hands (usually shaped like mittens) are often oversized.

The head is the same color as the rest of the body and has characteristic floppy ears. Accessories might include a hat, a carrot or a funny vest and tie. Some bunny costumes have furry pom-poms on the belly as well.

These costumes are a wonderful choice for people working as the Easter Bunny at a mall or other social event, or for your own backyard or church Easter egg hunt. They can be pretty expensive to buy, usually retailing at more than $100, but if you need the suit for professional purposes, this is the way to go.

Sources for Traditional Costumes

There are many places you can buy these traditional bunny costumes on the Internet, such as:

If you have a costume shop in your area that stays open year round, you might be bale to find a better deal on bunny costumes there, or you could rent a costume if you know you only need it for a few hours.

Making Your Own Bunny Costume

While it won't work for fooling the kids at Easter, you can easily make your own bunny costume for Halloween or other costumer-worthy occasions. Start with a plain white sweat suit. Wear white shoes and white gloves if you have some. Buy or make a pink pom-pom and stitch it to the back of the pants.

Use eyeliner or face paint to draw whiskers on your cheeks. Add a top hat or a funny hat and you're ready to go. You could also buy a bunny mask to wear over your face if desired.

The Other Kind of Bunny Costume

Of course when some people think of bunny costumes, their idea of the ideal costume is a little less family friendly than those traditional costumes we were just talking about. While sexy bunnies aren't usually thought of around Easter time, this wouldn't be an article about bunny costumes without giving them a quick mention.

Pretty much all of the outlets listed above sell Playboy-inspired bunny costumes, which are usually something similar to a French maid costume with fishnets, a tiny bow tie and a headband decorated with bunny ears.

There are other variations to the sexy bunny costume that are tighter, different colors (pink is also popular), feathers, garters and other fun touches. If you're looking for that kind of bunny outfit, check out the following websites:

As you can probably gather from some of the names of these sites, they are not recommended for children's eyes.

You probably wouldn't want to make your own sexy bunny costume, but if you have a slinky piece of lingerie in black or pink you could probably make a good substitute as long as you don't want to leave the house in it. Make a bow tie out of black (or a matching color) fabric, cut ears out of cardboard and cover with fabric or add fabric to a frame made of hangers, and then attach that to a headband.

Add some fishnet stockings, sexy heels and a smile and you're ready to go.

Wearing Bunny Costumes

Remember that costumes, like bunny costumes, that include something that goes over your head can get very hot. Sure, Easter is in the spring, but that doesn't mean it isn't plenty toasty inside a bunny costume.

Just remember to hydrate properly before you put the suit on, especially if you are going to be outside, and take regular breaks to sit down, take the head off and get water while you are wearing the costume (try to do this away from the children).
