Alice in Wonderland Halloween Costumes
From LoveToKnow Costumes
Of all the classic storybook costumes, few lend themselves to such a wide array of fun, funny and group costumes as Alice in Wonderland Halloween costumes. From the enchanting and clever novels to the charming Disney film, the story of Alice and her adventures fires the imagination again and again.
Buying Alice in Wonderland Halloween Costumes
Alice in Wonderland Halloween costumes are some of the easiest to buy, especially if you’re not too particular about the quality and exact look. Inexpensive costumes can be bought for everyone from a toddler to a plus-size woman, and they range from sweet and innocent to sexy and scary.
If you’re shopping online, start with Buy Alice in Wonderland Costumes, which carries a wide range of character costumes for kids and adults. They’re not a good source for group costumes for kids, because while they carry five different variations of girls’ dresses for Alice, the only other character for whom they sell a costume for non-adults is the Queen of Hearts, and even that is a a teen costume.
However, if you’re looking to send your little Alice out on an adventure, the basic look of the blue dress with the white apron is available in several different fabrics, styles, lengths and sizes. The look is not classic and the quality only fair, but the prices are reasonable and your little Alice should feel confident.
For adults looking for a theme costume, this isn’t your cheapest option, but you can’t beat the convenience of one-stop shopping. In addition to dresses for an adult Alice, they have costumes for a Cheshire Cat, White Rabbit, Mad Hatter, Queen of Hearts and King of Hearts. They also offer sexy costumes for Alice, the Mad Hatter and the Queen of Hearts.
Finally, if you only want a partial costume, you can choose from a wide array of accessories, including hats, stockings and glasses.
Sexy Alice in Wonderland Halloween Costumes
If you want to make a splash when you drop down the rabbit hole into the party, My Diva’s Closet carries several sexy costumes of nice quality. The four dresses all skim the upper thigh and can be accessorized with a petticoat. One Alice dress features an adorable playing-card motif, while the other is a twist on the traditional costume featuring black bows. The Mad Hatter has a can-can look with a fetching hat and the Queen of Hearts is downright dangerous.
Making Alice in Wonderland Halloween Costumes
If you have a talent for sewing, time for shopping and a good eye, costumes for Alice and her friends can be fun and easy to make.
First, look to the original John Tenniel artwork for inspiration. Alice’s simple blue dress with lightly puffed sleeves and stripes at the bottom of the skirt, covered by the white pinafore with two pockets, is one of literature’s more iconic images. The hair ribbon is used in the sequel, Through the Looking-Glass, in which Alice also sports fun striped socks. Either of these looks is simple to re-create, and the dress doesn’t have to be shaped because the pinafore will take care of that for you.
A White Rabbit costume can also be easily contrived. Rabbit ears are available for sale, but with some wire, white fabric with a nap, scissors and thread or glue, you can tailor ears to your liking. Knee-length baggy white sweatpants worn over white socks with a wad of cotton attached at the back will give you a nice bunny effect. Add a red vest, a short green jacket and a large pocket-watch and be sure to be on time so that everyone can admire you.
For a Mad Hatter costume, any top-hat will do, although one that is several sizes too large is preferable. Stick a label reading “10/6” in the ribbon and show off your knowledge by letting anyone who asks know that it is the price of the hat, 10 shillings and sixpence. A turned-up collar, jacket and polka-dot bow tie finish the look perfectly.
Finally, if you’re going as a group, bring props! Flamingos for playing croquet or a tea set with a stuffed mouse make your look that much more effective and fun.

I made an Alice costume from McCall's pattern M4849. Patterns such as those are available in fabric stores and Wal-mart.
